Crash

Device is defect, errror code 0X22.

This weekend my harddrive crashed badly. Did I have a backup? Yes I did. I finally had use of my backups. So the todays lesson is, make backups, often.

Update: Seemed that it was not a hard disc crash, it was the PSU that did not work correctly. After buying a new one the problem vanished. Strange thing though, the new disc that I bought was mail functioning from the beginning. This made me scratch my head a few times. Even strangier is that the new disc that I bought seemed to be an old disc. It had a bunch of scratches on the side. The plastic bag that the disc laid in was new. Does Seagate re-package old discs they get back and sell them as new?

New digital home

After running the this site on my home web server I have now moved to a professional host. When you see this message you are reading it from the Surftown servers. Hopefully everything will work fine after the DNS has changed. I made the decision after talking to my ISP, when we make our “real life” move we will loose our broadband connection for up to 2 weeks. I did not want my site to be down for such a long time. The good thing is that the server will now feel much more faster. Just looking at the how fast the page renders I have cut the time with 66%.

Human after all

This weekend I bought my first legal music over the net. I tried the Apple/iTunes music store out and bought myself a nice electronic album, Human after all with Daft Punk.

The registration was a peace of cake and the one click feature almost maked me shiver, it was almost too easy to buy an album. After clicking the buy button, I got an alert asking if I was sure. I clicked yes and the download began. I had a few problems with the download, not really sure what the problem was. Maybe the Apple servers had a lot of visitors this weekend as the store opened last week here in Sweden. I just used the resume feature to get all the songs downloaded.

The price is now 90 SEK (13 dollars) which is not too bad, of course it would be nice with even a lower price but it is a good start.

I will probably buy more albums this way :D Keep on rocking.

Yes, IE7 has tabs

IE7 will have tabs.

Some people have asked why we didn’t put tabs in IE sooner. Initially, we had some concerns around complexity and consistency… will it confuse users more than it benefits them? Is it confusing if IE has tabs, but other core parts of the Windows experience, like Windows Media Player or the shell, don’t have tabs? I think we made the wrong decision here initially, and we’re making the right one now.

Strange DNS issue

My site was down today, or should I say my DNS service. Not really sure what happened. I use Zoneedit as my DNS service. I have another site on the same place and hosting it on my server and that one was working like normal. Well, well. Now my site is up again. Keep on going as usual.
