My top 8 plugins for Wordpress

I’ve gotten a few questions if I use any good plugins for my site. Wordpress have a lot of nice features but even better support for plugins and extensions. I try not use that many, only plugins that makes my site better for me or my users. So here it goes:

Bannage

Who likes spam? I get a lot of them and Bannage helps me to keep my site clean of this. I can add email addresses, words, IP numbers and commenters name, all with wildcards like *viagra* or *ng44rve.info*. Everything that matches the string are automatically sent to the trash.

Dean’s FCKEditor for WordPress plugin

The standard editor in Wordpress is really simple, I want something more advanced and this plugin really makes easy for me. It’s like Microsoft Word for Wordpress, I can easily add images, tables, bullet lists and specific styles. Takes some time to load but is really worth it.

Search Hilite

There is a simple search hilite feature in Wordpress, I want the user to get some more features, more like the one in Google with different colors. Much more efficient and much more usable.

Optimal Title

The title in a deafult installation in not optimal. This plugin fixes this problem. Now the title comes first, then the name of the blog. Wordpress does it the way around. This really made my blog more usable and many more users comes from search engines when I started to use this plugin, really a SEO tip.

Feedburner plugin

I like statistics, the problem with RSS that it is really hard to get statistics on the feeds. The feedburner plugin fixes this problem. I can now see how many users who reads my blog through a RSS reader.

Google Sitemap Generator

Google sitemap is a tool to help Google index your site in a better way. This plugin does this automatically. The plugin updates the index file every time you post a new post. Also a good SEO tip.

Search Everything Wordpress Plugin

Wordpress default search only search the posts, nothing else, this plugin make it possible to search other stuff like commenters name and the comments. It is also possible to search custom fields (metadata). Really great when trying locate something on your site.

Search Meter: a WordPress plugin

What are your users searching on you site? This plugins really makes it easy to see what people are searching for. It also shows search terms that do not get any search result, great if you want to write new content for your site.
