2 weeks = 2 months

I will not have a internet connection for two months. My ISP (Bredbandsbolaget) informed me that the company (Skanova) that install equipment in the telephone stations had delivery problems this summer. So instead of waiting two weeks I now have to wait two months , aargh. It is really interesting to see how much you need internet these days.

Swedish parliament

The Swedish parliament (Sveriges riksdag) has launched their new approved website. They have focused on accessibility and have come a long way. They seem to use EpiServer as CMS which is quite common here in Sweden. Codewise there as a lot of divitis and classitis, but hey they use CSS based design, semantic XHTML and no validating errors (only warnings). They have easy read Swedish option, built-in speak synthesizer and parts of the site in sign language. Well done.

Crash

Device is defect, errror code 0X22.

This weekend my harddrive crashed badly. Did I have a backup? Yes I did. I finally had use of my backups. So the todays lesson is, make backups, often.

Update: Seemed that it was not a hard disc crash, it was the PSU that did not work correctly. After buying a new one the problem vanished. Strange thing though, the new disc that I bought was mail functioning from the beginning. This made me scratch my head a few times. Even strangier is that the new disc that I bought seemed to be an old disc. It had a bunch of scratches on the side. The plastic bag that the disc laid in was new. Does Seagate re-package old discs they get back and sell them as new?

Best Swedish website

Update: The 25th of November the site got even better.

Skatteverket (Swedish), where I work was elected the best Swedish government website this year by the Internetworld magazine. Today we are celebrating with cake :D Take note that the site do not follow web standards, is using frames, do not validate and have a lot of accessibility problems :( These are things that we are working with and will fixed.

The site was elected from these five criteria.

* The use of internet in a new creative way
* The quality of the content
* Structure and navigation
* Design
* Clear sender (remitter)

A loose translation.

The web is Skatteverkets best window. Swedens best government website has an easy and clear design that makes it easy to find. Web services as skattejämkning, company registration, electronic income-tax lets Skatteverket do a clean sweep compared other government websites. The site makes use of the interactive parts of Internet for the electronic services as calculating tax, tax values and car benefit values. The huge form- and brochure archive is great for for people who like order and their contact form by mail is effective.
