Live beta site

Update 5 (2005.01.08) The site has been launched as you can see, you can read more about the launch here.

If the site look strange I have finally started to work on the design for my site.

You can see the the whole progress of my beta site here. I will try to add more info along the way. Right now I only have a PNG sketch how I want it look. So if it looks kind of weird when looking at the utv page be aware that I am working with it.

As I run my site on my own server I have shared my webfolder with Samba. So I can work directly against it. Every time I save you can see how it looks. Kind of scary, right?

I will add all updates in this article.

Update 4 (2004.12.09) Been working along and I am soon getting there. Have added a bunch of small stuff. Also found some time to make a print style sheet. Print a page to see how it looks. If you use Opera it still look kind of crapy. The headings background turns green, the navigation fal

ls apart and the form fields a too big, but I am working on it.

Update 3 (2004.11.22) Changed the heading and link colors, will try it out on some monitors to see how it works, might be too strong. Still having some problems with the SIFR for headings. Do not like after hovering the headings, they turn black. If I cannot get it to work I’ll try some other techniques. Changed some images for IE as it does not understand transparent PNG’s. Used the * HTML trick to send a different images to IE, works like charm.

Update 2 (2004.11.09) Starting to get finnished with the frontpage, have also started to work with all the contentpages.

Have also added an anyoing hint for all IE users ;)

Update 1 (2004.10.26) Here is first final sketch that I made. I am not sure if this will be the final one.

Update 0 (2004.10.26) Started to web-ify the sketch I made in Fireworks. Have gotten most of it on right place in Firefox, have not even looked in IE yet. But that’s my plan, first got it running in Firefox, then start fix it for the rest.

Read about heading replacement technique and the problem with transparency, will have to look into this a bit more. Now, bedtime.

My thoughts around the new design.

My primary goal is to make a frontpage that do not have so much content. Many blogs of today have so much on the frontpage. Instead I want to have only a few links where the user can click the articles to read more. I believe that the articles would be the primary information. I also want to have quick links to other sites related to my site, they will be at the bottom of the page.

I also wanted a large photograph from my own collection, mostly to set some kind of feeling. The colours used on the site comes from the photo.

The typography is Knockout for headings, I make use of the flash replacement technique. If the user have no flash installed it will get a normal text heading. Normal text will use Trebushet for Windows, not sure what I will use for Machintosh and Linux yet.

Black text on brown background? Not very readable.

Thanks guys ;) I had that gut feeling too, I will of course continue working on this. Any more comments, do not hesitate to send a note. That was the meaning of the live beta site so anyone could comment.

Like the frontpage, but like the rest of the group said…colors are hard to read, otherwise I am most definitely looking forward to the new page, should be a nice, clean layout from the looks of it…

Better now but the search box is not very easy to find.
